Too Many Jedi

Apparently, in the olden days of yore, the lightsaber was more common than a broomstick. What ever happened to the privileged few? Jedi battles might be fun, but that's not the role Jedi served in the original trilogy. Jedi stood in sharp contrast to the mindless battles waged by unenlightened masses. The Jedi were a metaphor for self-control and understanding of the universe, which happened on a personal level. The mass Jedi spectacles of Episodes II and III betray this point. Show-boating just doesn't ring true to the Jedi philosophy.
