Political Firing of US Attorneys

The Depart of Justice, following orders of Bush-appointed Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, initiated the firing of seven US attorneys during a mid-term elections. Although all seven attorneys were appointed by Bush years earlier, such a firing had no precedent is US history, with allegations claiming the attorneys were dismissed for either refusing to stop ongoing investigations of Republican congressmen, or start investigations on Democrats. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales defended the dismissals by claiming these attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President, only to resign later along with nine of his officers.
